Late in the Olympic campaign, the CMO of Toyota North America requested an additional spot to air during the closing ceremonies—a final message to bridge the Winter Games to the upcoming Summer Games. The brief was to create a new story that stayed true to the campaign’s emotional core while looking ahead with optimism and inspiration.
Throughout the campaign, we had explored stories of resilience, comeback, and personal triumph. But one angle we hadn’t touched yet was the dream itself—that fleeting moment when a young person sees their impossible begin to feel possible. That spark. That glimpse of what could be.
“Join the Team” is about a dream taking shape in real time. There’s no grand triumph, no medal, no finish line—just a few seconds of perfect alignment between aspiration and reality. That’s all it takes. The spot becomes a quiet, cinematic meditation on what happens when your heroes see you, even for a moment, as one of them. It’s about how a glimpse of belonging can open up a lifetime of belief.

Personal Note
This one means everything to me. I’ve always loved cycling, and when I read the brief and learned that the Toyota CMO did too, the story just unfolded in my head. It felt like telling a story from my own childhood. Shooting in that stunning Italian village, watching this dreamlike little film come together—it was one of those rare moments in this job where I thought, I can’t believe this is work. If I could only keep one commercial from my entire career, it would be this one. Not because it won awards, but because it reflects who I am more than anything else I’ve made.
