With the Summer Games in its home country, Toyota set out to do more than sponsor the Olympics—it aimed to transform Tokyo into a Mobility City. By deploying a sweeping fleet of hybrid taxis, hydrogen buses, autonomous vehicles, assistive robots, and concept cars, Toyota’s goal was to make Tokyo the most accessible city on the planet for athletes, citizens, and fans. Our challenge was to bring that vision to life in a single, emotionally resonant story.
Transforming an entire city’s mobility infrastructure is the kind of undertaking that usually takes governments decades. To see it happen in just a few years would feel almost unreal—like magic. So we decided to tell the story not as a rollout, but as a spectacle of real-world magic—sudden, surprising, and full of wonder.
We gave the magic touch to a young boy in Tokyo—a child who discovers he has the power to transform the city around him. As he moves through his world, the city evolves—cleaner, smarter, and more inclusive. But it’s not just the people watching who are amazed—the boy is too. He’s discovering the magic of possibility right along with us.

Personal Note
In early 2020, we all discovered that the universe had different plans. The pandemic postponed the Tokyo Games, and for a while, it seemed like this spot—and Toyota’s grand vision—might never see the light of day. But eventually, the Games were rescheduled, Toyota’s initiative moved forward in a modified form, and this spot aired during the Opening Ceremonies. At a time when the world needed a bit of joy and wonder, we were able to share a little magic after all.
